Long-time Blaine resident, William 'Bill' Schouten, age 86, was taken home to his Heavenly Father at Stafholt Good Samaritan Home on Monday, December 9, 2013.
Born August 26, 1927 in Lynden, Bill was the son of Arie and Anna (Bovenkamp) Schouten. He attended Lynden schools and during the latter part of WWII joined the US Merchant Marines. On September 27, 1950 he married Clazina Lagerwey and in 1964 they moved with their family to Blaine. He was employed by Union Oil and owned a gas station in Blaine prior to working on the pot lines at Intalco Aluminum for more than twenty years.
Bill's priority was his family, he especially enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, but also found time for bowling and fishing. Bill attended the United Church of Christ Church in Blaine.
Preceded in death by his parents, a son Brian Schouten in 1992, four brothers and a sister, Bill is survived by his wife Clazina; children Sharon Schouten of Blaine, Wayne & Val Schouten of Blaine, Mike & Kim Schouten of Minden, NV and Barbara & Michael Wehrs of Woodinville; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Ruth Schouten of Lynden and numerous other relatives.
Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the United Church of Christ, 885 4th St. in Blaine. Burial will precede the services at 12:30 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden.
